Gelatin Silver Prints—Rose Parade, Portland, Oregon

In addition to being a seminal event marking the passage of spring into summer, the Portland Rose Parade is also a celebration of the feminine directly represented by the queen and her court and more symbolically by the profusion of flowers on the floats. The parade is an unabashed celebration of who we are as a people and what we value. While depicting these themes I tend to focus on what I call the “parade within the parade,” mainly the antics of the crowd before and during the event.
